A term denoting an important class of woollen figured cloths, which is popular at times. 11 Cut-Work
CUT-WORK (Point-coupee, French)A very early sort of lace, deriving its name from the mode of its manufacture, the fine cloth on which the pattern was worked with a needle being cut away, leaving the design perfect. Supposed to have been made in the 12th century by the nuns of Italy. Does not appear to have been known in England before the reign of Elizabeth. Cut-work, as well as laces of all descriptions, fell under the ban of the Puritans, and is seldom heard of after that period. -

Flax of superior quality for the very best yarn and for which only the middle portion of the fibre is used, which is called " cut lace." This cut line varies from 9-in. to about 18-m. in length. -

Signifies the number of an asbestos yarn. When " cut "is preceded by a number it indicates, in multiples of 100 yards, the yardage per pound of single-ply yarn, e.g., 4 cut denotes that one pound of single-ply yarn measures 400 yards. -

19 Cut Chinchilla
Chinchilla fabrics with fine coloured stripes in the warp, produced by hard-spun yarns. These hard yarns are placed at regular intervals. They are usually of cotton and are woven with the weft so as to bind it firmly into the face of the cloth. This prevents the formation of the floats necessary to produce the long nap formed into nubs during finishing (see Chinchilla) -

As in cut checks, cut stripes have a clear change where one weave joins another. In the design this obtains on ends 12 and 13, also 24 and 1.
